The Resistant Act of Remembrance

A few days ago, the anniversary of Aaron Bushnell’s death was marked. I might have forgotten what happened a year ago on February 25th had it not been amplified by social media organizers. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard to wrap my head around. Or that I have a solid understanding of the ancient practice of self-immolation or its relationship to acts of resistance embodied in people like Mohamed Bouazizi, who catalyzed the Arab Spring

I know only that, with the exception of a few independent news sources, Aaron Bushnell is not someone that Western mainstream media wants to be remembered. Instead, the West offers words like cult-like behavior and mental illness simultaneous to being complicit in mass atrocities. In an effort to remember Aaron, here are three different articles pertaining to his life: 1) a perspective from Mondoweiss, 2) a perspective from CounterPunch, and 3) a perspective from the University of Chicago School of Divinity.
